Show and Tell Friday!

I am a little late getting this post up. I just found Kelli's blog last night. Her suggestions for today's Show & Tell is something from the bedroom. I messed up with my permalink and in order to see the whole post you have to go to my main page: Kim's Art By The Sea. I'll do better next time

This picture is called Second hand Sarah. I was working in the framing department of Old America and the artist would bring in three or more pictures to be framed each week and one day she brought this one in and told me I was her inspiration for the picture. I really did not have the money to buy it, but she was willing to work with me. I love it just as much today as the day it became mine.
The locket was a piece my grandfather gave my grandmother on their first anniversery. She gave it to me when I was sixteen.

The Fairy Fair

The fairies are preparing to gather at night for one of their favorite events - the fairy fair. The fairies take full advantage of the event and enjoy socializing, singing, dancing and just having a good time. The fairies also do a little trading at this time. Some fairies are expert shoemakers. This is only one of the sought after items up for trade. Some bring crowns, jewelry, clothing, musical instruments, and furniture. It all adds up to a merry good time had by all. Maybe if we are lucky we might catch a glimpse of a few on their way to the fair. Look, here they come!

Captured Fairy

It was not easy to get good pictures. I think it is really much prettier than it looks in these pictures. I used coffee filters for the background and the roses are made from them also. I am going for color on the next one and let my crazy side get creative.

Butterfly Fairy

Another little butterfly fairy, but this one is going to be captured. I worked on the jar yesterday, but I keep adding things. The fairies need to be a little smaller. Both of them are 10 inches and the working part of the jar is 10, so in order to get more stuff in the jar the fairies need to be smaller. I would like to put a couple of them in each jar. I have decided to paint on the outside of the jar, so that is what I'll be doing today. I have to take everything out of the jar because the glass paint has to go in the oven. This seems to be one of my biggest problems- get almost to the end of a project and decide it needs something more and then have to redo everything to make whatever happen. I am not complaining just wish these things would come to me while creating and not after.

Sunrise

I made a cup coffee and off to the beach, hoping to get a sunrise picture to share. I have really been trying to get a little exercise because there is just way too much sitting going on. I just have to make myself stick to it. In my junking the other day I ran across an old book filled with poems, so I thought it would be nice to share one every now and then. I am going to use this one in a collage. you can print these if you would like. I scanned them in document size. I hope everyone has a fun filled weekend. See you on Monday!

I was wondering if any of you might know what kind of doll this is? The eyes are painted. Her head looked like it was molded, but then hair was added on. I did a little research this morning and I think she is composition. I know she is old, but I am wondering the maker and year. It has no markings on the body. She is in pretty good shape. I washed all the clothing and everything held together beautifully.

I have taken a few days off from blogging and art and have taken long walks on the beach and just trying to get over my blog disaster. I have decided just to have this blog and Art dolls. I wanted Kim's Art to just be about the art, but I know art and living life go hand and hand, so that is what this blog will be. One blog is enough! Yesterday after my walk I decided to do a little junking and this is what was found.

My blog picture

If a picture could define a person, this is totally me! To me the most beautiful animal in the world is the horse. I must have a dog in my life at all times. I love everything about the Victorian era, the clothes, the hats, and never forget the gorgeous jewelry. Christmas ornaments, Did they know how to make them or what? Furniture speaks of a time when craftsman and artists really took the time to make beautiful pieces of art. Lace- That is another one of my passions and I have been collecting it since I was in my teens. I will never forget running across a garment that was from that time period and the stitching was all done by hand and it was perfect. What would we do today if we had to make are clothing by hand. Sometimes when I am making my dolls I think of that time and I try to make sure I keep that spirit of hand work alive. Mostly sewing and very little glue.
