Tip of the week

During a week you learn so many new things and so I thought it would be really good to put it in a post on Fridays. I will call it Tip of the week. So here goes the coolest thing I learned this week (by accident). Hand sanitizing lotion is great for smoothing polymer clay. I use a variety of clays and so I tested them all. It worked! I used a fabric brush to apply and smooth. When baking the clay I do multi baking's and so I cover my pieces previously baked with a barely damp paper towel.

Great tip! I've also used
fresh baby wipes to cover parts of previously baked clay that I don't want to
have overbaked.

I have never tried the hand sanitizer. I wonder if non moisterizing hand sanitizer would work also? Will have to try it.

I've used hand sanitizer with my alcohol inks and markers, but didn't know about the clay. Maybe someday my sculpting will be good enough to put this tip to use.

Sounds cool! Yeah, I suggest you try the medium you are intending to use with every clay... I have been using a hand lotion with my clay to smooth it, and then I sculpted my latest with another clay and used the same lotion... OUCH! Brown marks all over the clay appeared in the baking, just terrible. What works with one clay doesn't perhaps with the other.

If someone tries the regular sanitizer let me know. I will pick up some and try it. Mollamari is right, always test the clay first before using on a piece you have spent time sculpting on.

What a great tip. I've been playing with polymer clays and that is so interesting.

I had a nice visit today. Always great.
